Course Description

This course will explore the principles and techniques associated with conducting research in the behavioral sciences with a special emphasis on critical thinking skills.

As practicing clinical psychologists a basic understanding and utilization of research design and statistical methods is fundamental. From being critical consumers of the current treatment literature, to identifying appropriate assessment tools for our clients, to being able to assess treatment progress for our clients - an understanding of these core concepts is essential for becoming a competent clinical psychologist. As such, the Clinical Psychology Psy.D. training program requires graduate level coursework in this area. In addition, the training program culminates in a doctoral dissertation project, which is an application of the research methods and statistical concepts that have been gained throughout the program. This course is designed to enhance the success of students in their graduate program by providing a solid foundation of core concepts in the area of research methods.

This course meets and exceeds the state board licensing prerequisites for coursework in child abuse assessment and reporting for psychologists, therapists and social workers.
